Musa said every Nigerian should have the opportunity to undergo military training because the experience could provide a different perspective on life and help people understand the physical and mental demands faced by soldiers.
According to him, military training exposes participants to conditions that test their ability to endure hunger, exhaustion and prolonged periods without sleep.
He said such experiences demonstrate the level of endurance required of soldiers, particularly when they have to continue moving for kilometres despite fatigue.
Musa highlights sacrifices of soldiers
Musa said the hardships faced by military personnel are part of the demands of protecting other people and the country.
He likened the sacrifice to the biblical principle that there is no greater act of friendship than giving one’s life for another person, saying Nigerian soldiers put their lives at risk to keep the country secure.
The Army General said it was therefore painful to see members of the public insult military personnel or suggest that the security challenges confronting the country should continue.
He stressed that soldiers, like other Nigerians, want an end to insecurity and a return to peace.
Soldiers leave families behind to protect the country
Musa also drew attention to the personal sacrifices made by military personnel, noting that soldiers deployed on security duties are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and members of families.
He said many leave their families behind while remaining deployed in difficult conditions, including during rain, dust, at night and during the day.
According to him, military personnel continue working under these circumstances to help keep the country secure.
Musa said the sacrifices and difficult conditions faced by soldiers should be recognised by Nigerians.
“They deserve some commendation,” he said.
