President of Poland Karol Nawrocki has signed amendments to the Law on Education, which prohibit the use of mobile phones in schools effective from September 1, 2026.
According to the new rules, students of public and private primary schools aged 7-15 will be prohibited from using mobile phones and other devices that allow communication, recording sound or video. The ban will apply during lessons, breaks and other school activities.
It will also apply to educational activities organized outside the school, for example, physical education lessons on outdoor sports grounds.
In addition, children will be prohibited from bringing and using electronic devices while in kindergartens, schools with preschool departments and other preschool education institutions, both on the premises of these institutions and during organized activities outside them.
Students will only be able to use devices if the teacher deems it necessary for conducting classes or testing knowledge, if there is a need for urgent communication with parents, or in the event of a direct threat to life or health. Also, the head of the educational institution may allow the use of an electronic device if it is related to an illness, disability or other special needs of the student that require mobile applications.
