Arne Slot has been dismissed as head coach of Liverpool F.C., bringing an end to his two-year spell at Anfield despite leading the club to a Premier League title during his debut campaign.
Liverpool confirmed the decision on Saturday following an internal review of the club’s 2025/26 season, which saw the Reds fall short of expectations after a dramatic decline from their title-winning form.
Slot arrived at Liverpool in 2024 as the successor to Jürgen Klopp and enjoyed immediate success, guiding the club to its 20th English league title and becoming the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League.
However, Liverpool struggled throughout the 2025/26 campaign, finishing outside the title race in fifth place and missing out on key objectives despite significant investment in the squad. Reports indicate growing concerns over performances, tactical direction and dressing-room issues contributed to the club’s decision to make a change.
In a statement, Liverpool thanked Slot for his contribution to the club, highlighting his professionalism and the Premier League triumph achieved during his first season in charge. Club officials reportedly stressed that the decision was made with the intention of taking the team in a new direction rather than diminishing Slot’s achievements.
Attention has now shifted to Liverpool’s search for a successor, with former AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola emerging as a leading candidate for the role. Other names linked with the position include Sebastian Hoeneß and Pierre Sage.
