The Federal Government has released eight months of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance to non-academic workers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced on Wednesday.

Alausa said the payment was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen industrial harmony and minimise disruptions in the tertiary education sector.

According to him, the release reflects the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to supporting workers and sustaining uninterrupted education delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The release of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance is a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening industrial harmony and supporting quality education delivery,” the minister said.

Alausa said non-academic workers played a critical role in the effective operation of tertiary institutions and deserved recognition for their contribution to Nigeria’s education system.

He added that the payment recognised the importance of both academic and non-academic employees in maintaining stability and ensuring the effective functioning of tertiary institutions.

The minister said the payment was also aimed at addressing legitimate welfare concerns and reducing disruptions to academic activities.

The development follows the earlier commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff.

Alausa assured workers and other stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue discussions with unions, institutional heads and other partners to resolve outstanding issues affecting the sector.

He said, “The Federal Ministry of Education will continue engaging unions, institutional leaders and other partners to resolve outstanding issues and promote a stable, productive tertiary education system.”
