The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel that allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub for moving illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia.
The NDLEA seized a consignment of 184.50 kilograms of cocaine reportedly worth as much as N39 billion concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos.
The agency also arrested the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate, a self-styled luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, Afolabi Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” as he attempted to flee the country.
Who is KC Luxury?
Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury or Kaycee Luxury, built a public profile around luxury goods and jewellery before the recent drug-trafficking investigation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
His name first appeared prominently in Nigerian entertainment media in 2018, when he was identified as a luxury jeweller who publicly challenged singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over an alleged ₦60 million jewellery transaction. Contemporary reports said Afolabi had used his Instagram account to publish a demand letter from his lawyers, alleging that he had given Davido a long chain and a wristwatch intended for delivery to the singer’s relative in the United Kingdom and had not been paid for the items.
His corporate footprint also extends beyond the social-media persona. Publicly indexed Nigerian corporate records identify Afolabi Kazeem Michael as a person with significant control of KAYCEE LUXURY NIG. LIMITED, a private company incorporated in August 2020. The company registered in Lagos lists its primary activity is hotel and hospitality services.
A second company, KAYCEE LUXURY HOMES NIG LTD, was incorporated in March 2024 registered at an address on Ojuolobun Close, off Bus-Stop Oluwole, Victoria Island, Lagos,
Online, Afolabi has been associated with the Instagram identity @kaycee_luxury, which has been cited in media reports featuring him. The account and the Kaycee Luxury name appear to form part of the public persona through which he presented himself as a luxury entrepreneur.
Long before his arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Afolabi Kazeem Michael had cultivated a conspicuous luxury persona online. Michael presented himself through the visual language of wealth: high-end jewellery, luxury accessories, expensive-looking vehicles and an affluent social lifestyle. Recent reports have described the images and videos from his account as showcasing a “flashy” or “luxurious” lifestyle, with some of the material resurfacing after his arrest.
