May & Baker Warns Public Against Fraudulent ‘M&B Equity Stake’ Investment Scheme

May & Baker

May & Baker Nigeria Plc has warned members of the public against a fraudulent investment scheme circulating online under the name “M&B Equity Stake”, saying the offer is neither authorised nor connected to the pharmaceutical company.

The company, in a public notice, said fraudulent materials promoting the purported investment opportunity have been circulated through social media platforms, messaging applications and other online channels.

According to May & Baker, the scheme allegedly promises investors daily or guaranteed returns and is being promoted in the company’s name without its authorisation.

“The Company hereby unequivocally dissociates itself, its subsidiaries and affiliates from the purported ‘M&B Equity Stake’ investment scheme,” May & Baker said.

It added that any person, platform, website, group, flier, publication or other communication soliciting funds from the public in connection with the scheme is fraudulent and was not issued by or on behalf of the company.

The company advised members of the investing public to disregard such communications and refrain from making payments or providing personal and financial information in response to the offers. May & Baker also urged anyone who encounters the fraudulent scheme to report it to the appropriate authorities.

The company clarified that it is not currently undertaking a Rights Issue, Public Offer or any other capital-raising exercise involving the solicitation of investments from the general public.

May & Baker further urged its shareholders, customers, employees and members of the public to verify any investment opportunity or communication purportedly linked to the company through its official channels before taking any action.

The warning comes amid the growing use of company names and brands to promote fraudulent investment offers online, particularly schemes that promise unusually high or guaranteed returns to attract unsuspecting investors.
