The Nigerian Army has announced plans to strengthen military cooperation with neighboring and regional African countries through the expansion of training opportunities at its Warrant Officers Academy, a move aimed at enhancing professionalism and operational capacity across participating armed forces.

The development was disclosed during the graduation ceremony of Warrant Officers Academy Course 47, where 81 students successfully completed a 22-week intensive training programme.

Military authorities said the initiative reflects the Army’s commitment to promoting professionalism, leadership development, and stronger regional security partnerships through military education and training.

Army Deepens Regional Partnerships

Speaking at the ceremony, Army officials revealed that the academy will begin admitting personnel from selected African countries, including Liberia, The Gambia, and the Republic of Benin, starting from July 2026.

The move is expected to deepen military-to-military cooperation among West African nations while fostering the exchange of knowledge, operational experience, and best practices among senior non-commissioned officers.

According to the Army, the expansion aligns with broader efforts to strengthen regional security collaboration at a time when countries across West Africa continue to confront shared security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, transnational crime, and border-related threats.

Focus on Professionalism and Leadership

Officials noted that the academy programme is designed to enhance the capacity of warrant officers by equipping them with advanced leadership, administrative, and operational skills required for modern military operations.

The 22-week course exposes participants to a wide range of professional military subjects intended to improve decision-making, discipline, mentorship, and command support functions within their respective services.

Army authorities emphasized that warrant officers play a critical role in maintaining operational effectiveness and institutional continuity, making continuous professional development essential for the success of military operations.

81 Officers Complete Course 47

A total of 81 students graduated from Course 47, marking the successful completion of months of rigorous academic and practical training.

The graduates were encouraged to apply the knowledge and leadership skills acquired during the programme in their various assignments and to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

The inclusion of foreign military personnel from July is expected to further elevate the academy’s profile as a regional centre for military excellence and leadership development.

Strengthening Regional Security Architecture

Security analysts have increasingly highlighted the importance of cross-border military cooperation in addressing evolving security threats within the West African sub-region.
