The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates. The announcement was made by Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar and CEO of NECO, in Minna on Friday.
Examination Overview
The 2024 SSCE External examination took place from November 14 to December 14, with a total of 86,067 candidates registering. Out of these, 57,114 candidates achieved five credits or more, including both English Language and Mathematics, resulting in an overall pass rate of 67.35%.
Performance Details
The examination covered 29 subjects. In English Language, 83,220 candidates participated, with 62,929 (75.62%) scoring a credit or higher. For Mathematics, 83,024 candidates sat the exam, of which 77,988 (93.93%) achieved credits or above. Additionally, 70,711 candidates (83.39%) managed to secure five credits or more, not necessarily including English and Mathematics.
Malpractice and Supervision Issues
Prof. Wushishi highlighted that there was a significant reduction in examination malpractice this year, with 6,160 candidates involved in various forms of misconduct, marking a 27.7% decrease from the previous year. However, disciplinary actions were taken against several supervisors and examination centers. Seven supervisors across Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, tardiness, and aiding malpractice. Moreover, 14 examination centers were blacklisted for their involvement in whole-center malpractice, with 10 centers in Ogun State and 4 in Oyo State.
