The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative that allows candidates to resit their examinations earlier than the traditional cycle.
This new program, named WASSCE PC1, provides an opportunity for students to retake specific subjects as early as January and February instead of waiting for the May/June examination period or the next private examination cycle.

John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, unveiled the WASSCE PC1 initiative during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show and emphasized its significance in reducing delays for students who need to improve their grades.
“Students who access their results now and realize they need to resit one or two subjects have until January 8, 2025, to register online via our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” Kapi explained. “The exams will take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025.”
Kapi described the move as a significant milestone for education in West Africa stating “This initiative offers students a timely opportunity to improve their grades and maintain academic progression,”
The WAEC’s head of public affairs highlighted the registration process, noting that students have until January 8, 2025, to register online via WAEC’s website or through accredited internet cafés. The examinations will run from January 24 to February 15, 2025.
This initiative represents a significant shift from the previous system, where candidates had to wait for the next private examination cycle to retake failed papers. The WASSCE PC1 now provides a faster and more efficient option for students needing to enhance their results, fostering better academic continuity.
