IMF Resident Representative for Nigeria, Christian Ebeke has been appointed Director of the IMF Regional Technical Assistance Centre for West Africa with headquarters in Abidjan.
The new appointment brings his stint as IMF Resident Representative for Nigeria to a close starting from August 3rd,
In his farewell letter, Christian Ebeke who spent three years in Nigeria praised the country’s economic reforms stating “I’ve spent three years in Nigeria and learned a great deal. Hard, courageous, homegrown reforms—when iterative, coherent, consistent, and well communicated—can pay off faster than textbooks or econometric regressions suggest”.
He further listed stronger stability and external buffers as the most visible offshoot of the economic restructuring and reforms embarked upon by the Nigerian.
Recommendations For Nigeria
Christian Ebeke who has had numerous engagements with Nigerian economic leaders over the past few years further urged the country to consolidate on its reforms
“The task ahead is to fast-track inclusive, sustained growth—a long, structural effort that will require time and calibrated sequencing.”
Appreciating the warmth of the Nigerian people, he said “The Nigerian people have impressed me with their resilience and enormous hospitality as they navigated one of the sharpest corrections in disposable income in their recent memory.
“Every day, from Ikeja to Maiduguri, people went out to work and support their families. The social capital is strong.” He concluded
