German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock highlighted the importance of this modernization effort, noting Germany’s need for 400,000 skilled workers annually to sustain its economy. How the New Visa Portal Works
The visa application process has been streamlined into three key steps:

- Applicants complete an online form on the Consular Services Portal and upload required documents, such as passport scans and proof of qualifications.
- The portal features a Visa Navigator tool to help applicants determine the appropriate visa type.
- Preliminary Review
- German authorities conduct an initial review of the application.
- If additional information or documents are needed, applicants are notified through the portal.
- In-Person Verification
- Applicants attend a scheduled appointment at their nearest German consulate or embassy for identity verification, submission of original documents, and collection of biometric data, including fingerprints and photos.
