The Africa Center for Disease Control (AfCDC), an arm of the African Union (AU) is hiring for the position of an Information Technology (IT) assistant for a fixed tenure of one year period of which the first three (3) months will be considered as a probationary period.
Job Details
The IT Assistant reports to the IT Officer in the African Union’s Addis Ababa, Ethiopia office.
The IT Assistant, under the supervision of the IT Officer, will be responsible for providing daily routine IT support to staff at the Africa CDC headquarters. The incumbent will assist in ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and providing technical assistance to users as needed.
Main Job Functions
The IT assistant would provide routine IT support to Africa CDC staff to ensure smooth and effective operation of IT systems.
Perform hardware and software troubleshooting support
Provide timely technical assistance to users and supporting the overall functionality and maintenance of IT infrastructure.
Collaborate with the IT Officer to address system challenges, enhance user productivity, and maintain optimal system performance.
Provide first-line technical support to users experiencing IT-related issues.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software applications.
Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
Respond promptly to service requests and support tickets, resolving issues in a timely manner.
Assist in the setup and maintenance of IT infrastructure including servers, printers, and network devices.
Ensure the security and integrity of IT systems by implementing appropriate measures and protocols.
Provide basic IT procedures and best practices training to users.
Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaborate with other IT staff to implement new technologies and upgrades.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to the organization’s IT needs as well as other related duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in providing IT support in a professional environment
Alternatively, a Diploma in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in providing IT support in a professional environment.
Experience working in a regional, international organization, international NGOs or multinational organization is an added advantage
Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite, as well as common networking protocols.
Experience with IT ticketing systems and remote support tools.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
Relevant certifications (e.g.,CCNA, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional) would be an advantage.
Knowledge of ITIL principles is desirable
Skills Requirements
Proficiency in IT tools including Microsoft Office (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Power Point, Teams etc.) and ERP
Skills in Server management, Network Administration, Hardware and software maintenance, Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Ability to give attention to details and to work effectively under pressure.
Proficiency in any of AU official working languages (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish).

Renumeration
The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US $ 55,174.63 (GSA5 Step 5) inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 22,656.97 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff of the African Union .
