Zinedine Zidane has been confirmed as the new France coach on a four-year deal replacing Didier Deschamps. Zidane has been out of job since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 following a second spell with the club.
Speaking following his appointment, Zidane said “I’ve often said it: there’s nothing greater than the French national team. So it’s a joy and obviously a great source of pride to become the manager.”
Didier Deschamps who had been in the position since 2012 resigned following the team’s fourth place finish at the 2026 world cup. He oversaw 185 matches and 120 victories, guiding France to the 2018 World Cup title, the 2020-21 Nations League trophy, and the Euro 2016 and 2022 World Cup finals.
The 54-year-old Zidane is expected to begin his reign with an away Nations League game against Turkey before France host Italy at the Stade de France on October 2.
