Uber is accelerating its transformation into a broader travel and lifestyle platform, unveiling a suite of new features spanning hotel bookings, AI-powered voice requests, and in-app shopping at its annual Go-Get product event in New York.
The announcements signal a strategic shift by the ride-hailing giant to deepen user engagement and compete more directly with established travel and booking platforms.
A Broader Travel Ecosystem
At the center of the update is Uber’s entry into hotel reservations.
Through a partnership with Expedia Group, users can now browse and book from a catalog of more than 700,000 hotels directly within the Uber app.
The company also plans to integrate home rental listings from Vrbo later this year.
The move positions Uber in direct competition with travel heavyweights such as Booking Holdings and Airbnb, as it seeks to become a one-stop solution for transportation and accommodation.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the expansion is a natural evolution of Uber’s role in travel.
The company aims to simplify the end-to-end journey for users, from arrival in a city to navigating local experiences.
AI Voice Booking Takes Center Stage
Uber also introduced a new AI-powered voice assistant that allows users to book rides through conversational prompts.
The feature is built using models from OpenAI and reflects a wider push to integrate artificial intelligence across Uber’s services.
The company has already been rolling out AI-driven features, including smarter grocery recommendations and enhanced menu descriptions on Uber Eats.
The voice tool is expected to make booking faster and more intuitive, particularly for users on the go.
Shopping and Personal Concierge Features
Expanding beyond transport and travel, Uber is launching a new shopping feature that allows users to request items from stores not listed on the app.
Customers can send product details or images, and a personal shopper will source and deliver the items at retail price.
This builds on Uber’s growing logistics and delivery infrastructure, further blurring the line between ride-hailing and everyday commerce.
Travel Perks and In-App Services
New travel-focused upgrades include a “travel mode” that offers curated recommendations for destinations, attractions, and local hotspots.
Uber One subscribers will also gain perks such as ride credits and waived delivery fees when traveling internationally.
In addition, Uber is testing a hotel room delivery feature, enabling users to order essential items—like toiletries—directly to their rooms.
On-the-Go Convenience
For premium riders, Uber is introducing a feature that allows customers booking Uber Black or SUV rides to add food or coffee pickups along their route.
The service will roll out in select U.S. cities in the coming weeks.
Strategic Shift
The latest updates highlight Uber’s ambition to evolve into a “super app,” combining transportation, travel planning, delivery, and commerce into a single platform.
While the company continues to invest in areas like autonomous driving and air taxis, its newest features focus squarely on convenience and everyday utility.
As competition intensifies across mobility and travel sectors, Uber’s expanding ecosystem could redefine how users plan and experience trips—placing the app at the center of both movement and lifestyle.
