As the final votes are being counted in the U.S. election, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), congratulating Donald Trump, whose victory now appears likely. Trump has secured 267 electoral votes, nearing the 270 threshold to win the White House and is leading in key races still to be called, including Michigan and Wisconsin.
In his statement, Starmer wrote:
“Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of our shared values of freedom, democracy, and enterprise.” He further highlighted the enduring UK-US special relationship, emphasizing cooperation in areas such as economic growth, security, and technology.
Zelenskyy Lauds Trump’s “Peace Through Strength” Approach
Another nation’s leader has joined in congratulating Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also shared a message of support on X, underscoring Trump’s commitment to strategic U.S.-Ukraine cooperation, including a recent “Victory Plan” aimed at addressing Russian aggression.
“We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership,” said Zelenskyy, expressing hope that Trump’s “peace through strength” approach will bring just peace closer for Ukraine.
As vote counting wraps up, global leaders are already preparing for potential new directions in international relations under Trump’s anticipated leadership.
