The Nigerian Red Cross Society is set to launch Phase 2 of its Saving Lives and Livelihoods Project, a $1.5 billion initiative aimed at improving vaccine production and strengthening healthcare systems in 10 states. This was announced by the Society’s President, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, during World Red Cross Day in Abuja.
The initiative which is aimed at boosting access to life-saving vaccines and supporting public health infrastructure in the chosen states is expected to benefit over 65 million Nigerians.
The phase 3 project, which is a partnership between the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC) and the Mastercard Foundation follows phase 1 of the project concluded in 2023.
According to Adeaga, Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. and its launch was attended by representatives from the British Red Cross as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), alongside delegations from Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
