Foreign Affairs Ministry Warns of Fake Recruitment Scheme, Confirms Official Hiring Will Resume Soon

Ministry distances itself from online job scam, reiterates that all legitimate recruitment is handled by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has debunked a fake recruitment exercise circulating online, warning Nigerians to beware of fraudulent job offers falsely linked to the ministry.

In an official statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, and titled “Ministry of Foreign Affairs Disclaims Fake Recruitment Exercise,” the Ministry clarified that it has not commenced any new recruitment and is not associated with the scheme currently making the rounds on social media and other platforms.

The statement disclosed that the fraudulent job adverts were falsely presented as being endorsed by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, with claims of offering positions in the ministry.

“The Ministry unequivocally disassociates itself from this misleading and malicious advertisement and urges the general public to disregard such announcements and refrain from engaging with individuals or entities promoting these fraudulent schemes,” the statement said.

It stressed that all legitimate recruitment into the Nigerian Foreign Service is exclusively handled by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), and not directly by the Ministry. Furthermore, the Ministry emphasized that it neither demands nor accepts payments for job applications or appointments.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and integrity, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against employment-related fraud and to rely solely on official communication channels for information on job opportunities.

FCSC Recruitment Still Ongoing

Meanwhile, the Federal Civil Service Commission has extended the deadline for submission of applications for its ongoing recruitment into various federal ministries and agencies. Originally set to close on March 10, 2025, the deadline was extended to Monday, March 17, 2025, to accommodate the large number of applicants.

The recruitment exercise, which began on January 27, 2025, invites applications from qualified Nigerians, including those with physical challenges, through the official portal: https://recruitment.fedcivilservice.gov.ng.

Applicants are expected to upload essential documents including:

Curriculum Vitae

Degree, HND, or NCE Certificate

WAEC/NECO/NABTEB Certificate

NYSC Certificate or Exemption

Birth Certificate or Age Declaration

Local Government Identification

Recent Passport Photograph

The FCSC Chairman, Professor Tunji Olaopa, acknowledged technical difficulties on the portal due to high traffic and assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure a seamless application experience.

As the recruitment process continues, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made it clear that any official announcement regarding recruitment into the Foreign Service will be made through authorized government channels in collaboration with the FCSC.
