The Federal Government has designated Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in observance of this year’s International Workers’ Day, reaffirming its recognition of the contributions of Nigerian workers to national development.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through an official statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the minister extended congratulations to workers across the country, acknowledging their resilience, commitment, and role in driving Nigeria’s economic progress.

He emphasized that the dedication of the workforce remains a cornerstone of the nation’s growth and stability, noting that continued efforts by workers are vital to achieving broader development goals.

International Workers’ Day, celebrated annually on May 1, honors the achievements and contributions of workers worldwide while highlighting the importance of fair labor practices and improved working conditions.

The Federal Government’s declaration allows workers across various sectors to participate in commemorative activities marking the occasion.
