The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has advertised an opportunity for an Attaché de coopération (F/H) at the French Embassy in Nigeria in Abuja.

The position, based within the Embassy’s Service de coopération et d’action culturelle (SCAC), is designed for professionals with experience in international development, humanitarian affairs, and diplomacy.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Cultural Cooperation and Action Advisor (COCAC), Director of the French Institute in Nigeria (IFN), you will oversee general development cooperation sectors, with a particular focus on humanitarian and civil society issues.

You will lead cooperation on human rights and related topics (gender/equality, the death penalty, LGBT rights, torture, combating human trafficking, etc.).

You will foster and strengthen ties with civil society. You will also serve as the focal point for humanitarian matters and global issues, in coordination with the political department.

Role and Responsibilities

– Monitoring of all sectors of expertise: health, humanitarian aid, environment, civil society, and human rights.

– In close collaboration with the embassy, ​​analysis of information gathered from the implementation of programs, including strategic and prospective analyses, reports, and diplomatic notes.

– Organization of events related to sectoral activities, particularly with civil society and for the exchange of ideas. – Supervision of a VIA (Voluntary International Assistant).

– In the sectors of expertise, inter-agency coordination and coordination with external partners (European Union Directorate (EUD), French Development Agency (AFD), International Organizations (IOs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)).

– Monitoring of the implementation of programmed food aid, stabilization efforts, and interventions by the Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS). – Budgetary monitoring.

Requirements

The French Ministry seeks candidates with:

  • Strong interest in development cooperation, humanitarian affairs, and international relations.
  • A strong interest in development cooperation issues in general, and humanitarian aid in particular.

  • Prior field experience abroad. Ability to understand crisis contexts (population displacement, food crises, deteriorating security situations).

  • Excellent writing skills in French and English, and the ability to communicate effectively in public.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative spirit, loyalty, and a commitment to the common good.

  • Knowledge or fluency in a local language would be an asset, as would knowledge of the region.
