Peter Adeshola Olowononi has been appointed Afreximbank Director, Regional Operations, Southern Africa, based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Prior to his appointment, he served as Director, Client Relations, Anglophone West Africa.
In this role, Olowononi will oversee Afreximbank’s regional operations and strategic engagement across Southern Africa. His career at the bank spans more than 11 years, covering client relations, business development, trade finance and project finance.
Olowononi brings extensive experience in client coverage, transaction origination, and regional business development, and will lead the Bank’s operations and strategic engagement across Southern Africa.
Professional Experience
During his tenure leading Client Relations for Anglophone West Africa, Olowononi was responsible for business development across Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Cape Verde, with additional responsibilities involving the Dangote Group’s operations in Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Before becoming Head of Client Relations, Olowononi served as Afreximbank’s Business Development Manager for Anglophone West Africa from July 2015 to March 2019. In that role, he managed relationships with key clients and worked on the origination and completion of trade and project finance transactions across several African markets.
Olowononi also previously spent more than nine years at Diamond Bank Plc, where he worked across corporate banking, energy, loan recovery, treasury and branch operations. His corporate banking experience included financing transactions involving oil and gas assets, power projects and infrastructure.
At Diamond Bank, he participated in financing the acquisition and development of several Nigerian oil and gas assets, including OML 26, OML 46, OML 11 and OPL 274. He also participated in the financing of the acquisition of the Omotosho Electric Power Plant, the Ibadan and Yola electricity distribution companies and other power projects.
Educational Background
Peter Olowononi holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Lagos and a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Ahmadu Bello University. He also holds a certificate in Project Management from the George Washington University School of Business and studied International Business, Trade and Commerce at the University of Malta.
