Transcorp Power Non-Executive Director

Transcorp Power has proposed the appointment of Mrs. Maryam Bala Shehu as an Independent Non-Executive Director, subject to regulatory approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Shehu brings more than three decades of experience spanning energy, finance, commercial negotiations, gas business and alternative dispute resolution, with much of her career spent at TotalEnergies.

Professional Background

She currently works as an Energy Business Consultant and ADR Expert at Bamusky Global Consult Ltd, a position she has held since January 2022. Her work covers energy commercial advisory, mediation and arbitration, as well as ESG design and frameworks.

Before moving into consulting, Shehu spent more than 11 years at TotalEnergies in Nigeria, where she held senior roles across finance, gas commercial operations and deepwater asset administration.

Her most recent role at the energy major was General Manager, Deepwater Assets Administration, which she held from September 2020 to April 2022. In the role, she provided executive oversight for operational support functions including safety, security, logistics, facilities management, corporate social projects and stakeholder coordination.

Between 2014 and 2020, Shehu served as Deputy General Manager and Lead Negotiator, Gas Commercial at TotalEnergies. She led negotiations for strategic gas agreements covering domestic gas supply and Nigeria’s LNG expansion programme, including the development of the later NLNG trains.

She also oversaw gas agreements across the domestic and export markets and managed engagements with regulators, government institutions, business partners and other commercial counterparties.

Between 2018 and 2020, she chaired the Gas Subcommittee of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), where she participated in industry and policy discussions.

Earlier in her TotalEnergies career, Shehu served as Gas Finance Manager, acting as the company’s principal representative on Finance Advisory Committees for LNG companies in Nigeria. She provided financial and strategic support to boards and worked with cross-functional teams on aligning financial decisions with operational objectives.

Educational Qualification

Maryam Bala Shehu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University and has undertaken postgraduate business education at the University of Navarra and Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

She also holds a postgraduate degree in Mechanics of Renewable Energy at Middlesex University and an MBA programme at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University. Shehu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and holds professional credentials including FEI, FICMC, FNIM, MCIOD, MCARB and MITD.

Her proposed appointment comes as Transcorp Power continues to operate within Nigeria’s evolving electricity market, where expertise in energy commercialisation, regulation, gas supply and stakeholder management is increasingly important to power-generation businesses.
