The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has appointed Wola Asase as the Head of AFC Captive and Director on the Board of  AFC Captive Insurance Company Ltd (AFC Captive), an initiative to enhance its risk management capabilities and support the continued growth of its infrastructure financing activities across Africa.

About Wola Asase

Wola Asase is Deputy Director and Head of Syndications at the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), where he leads the institution’s global capital mobilisation and syndications platform.

Since joining AFC in 2017, Asase has built its syndications franchise from the ground up, mobilising more than US$8.57 billion in third-party capital and establishing partnerships with over 110 international financial institutions.

With more than two decades of experience across syndications, structured finance, capital markets and development finance, he has pioneered several innovative risk-transfer and capital-optimisation structures at AFC. These include the Corporation’s first Unfunded Risk Participation framework, its US$1.03 billion Portfolio Insurance Securitisation programme, its first A/B Bond repack programme, as well as Credit-Insured B Loan and Callable Capital Insurance structures.

Before joining AFC, Asase spent 12 years at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, where he rose from Investment Analyst to Senior Syndication Officer and led the IFC’s Africa syndications programme. During his tenure, he mobilised more than US$2.6 billion in third-party capital, working across offices in Washington DC, Dakar and Lagos.

He began his career as an Investment Analyst at UBS Investment Bank in New York, gaining experience in investment banking before moving into development finance.

Asase holds a dual degree in Business and Management Information Systems from Cardinal Stritch University in the United States and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has also completed executive leadership studies at Harvard Business School.

His experience spans project, sovereign and corporate finance, deal structuring, business development, client relationship management, financial analysis and valuation across North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
