Veteran Yoruba Actor Ogogo Battles Stage-Four Cancer as Daughters Seek Urgent Treatment

Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is battling stage-four cancer, according to emotional appeals made by his daughters, who are seeking urgent medical assistance for the 66-year-old actor.

The actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made separate appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, medical professionals and healthcare facilities with experience in cancer treatment to help their father.

The appeals came as the family said Ogogo’s condition had deteriorated and that they were struggling to find a hospital willing to continue his treatment.

Ogogo’s daughters appeal for medical help

In a video shared on Instagram, Lima said the family only became aware of the seriousness of her father’s condition about three weeks ago.

She said his physical appearance had initially given little indication of how severely ill he was.

According to her, the family is not seeking financial donations but medical intervention that could give the veteran actor another chance at treatment.

“He has cancer, and it’s really, really bad. And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance.”

Lima appealed to anyone with access to cancer specialists, hospitals or other medical facilities capable of taking on Ogogo’s case to contact the family.

She also acknowledged assistance already provided by a relative during the difficult period.

‘He is in stage four’

In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father’s cancer was at stage four.

She said the hospital treating him had informed the family that it could no longer administer chemotherapy.

Kira subsequently appealed to hospitals, cancer specialists and other medical professionals who might be able to offer further treatment.

The family, she said, was prepared to explore available options in their search for help.

She also expressed gratitude to Senator Yayi for what she described as substantial financial assistance towards her father’s treatment.

Daughter describes actor’s condition

Kira became emotional while speaking about her father’s condition, saying she had never previously seen him in such pain.

She also said Ogogo had expressed fear about dying.

The emotional appeal has since drawn attention to the actor’s reported health condition and the family’s search for medical assistance.

However, neither Ogogo’s management nor the family had, as of the time of the report, released a formal statement identifying the specific type of cancer or the hospital where he is being treated.

Ogogo’s four-decade career

Ogogo is one of the recognisable faces of Yoruba-language Nigerian cinema.

The actor has spent more than four decades in the entertainment industry and has appeared in more than 300 films, building a career that has made him a prominent figure in Nollywood’s Yoruba film sector.

His reported health crisis has prompted renewed concern among fans and colleagues as his daughters continue their appeal for medical assistance.

For now, the family is seeking doctors, hospitals and medical professionals who may be able to assess Ogogo’s condition and help determine whether further treatment options are available.
