Dangote Group has signed an $800 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement with China’s Sinoma International Engineering to expand the capacity of its Itori cement plant in Ogun State from six million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum.
The agreement was signed by Dangote Group President and Chief Executive Aliko Dangote and Sinoma International Engineering Chairman Lin Zhong, marking another phase in the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
Dangote said the investment forms part of the group’s strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforce its leadership in Africa’s cement industry. He added that the expanded plant would increase the company’s ability to meet rising domestic demand while boosting cement exports to African and international markets.
According to Dangote, the decision to expand the Itori facility was influenced by the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on the use of concrete for road construction as well as the company’s ambition to grow exports across Africa.
The expansion is also aligned with Dangote Cement’s Vision 2030, under which the company aims to achieve annual production of between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes across its operations.
“This $800 million investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry,” Dangote said.
He added that the company’s partnership with Sinoma has been instrumental in delivering several cement manufacturing plants across Africa and expressed confidence that the latest project would further enhance Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness.
Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong described the agreement as another milestone in the relationship between the two companies, saying the expansion would increase production capacity while strengthening Nigeria’s position as a manufacturing and export hub for the continent. Upon completion, the expanded Itori plant is expected to serve both domestic and export markets.
