United Nigeria Airlines has named Adedayo Olawuyi as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), in a strategic move aimed at strengthening its competitive positioning and accelerating route expansion across domestic and international markets.
The appointment signals a renewed commercial push by the carrier as it seeks to deepen market share within Nigeria’s fast-evolving aviation sector while exploring growth opportunities across Africa and beyond.
Rich Aviation Industry Experience
Olawuyi brings over 18 years of industry experience spanning commercial strategy, network and schedule planning, revenue optimisation, and business development. His career trajectory reflects a strong focus on data-driven decision-making and route profitability, key levers for airlines operating in increasingly competitive and cost-sensitive environments.
In his new role, Olawuyi will oversee the airline’s end-to-end commercial architecture, including revenue management, pricing, sales, marketing, distribution, cargo operations, partnerships, and customer experience. His mandate also includes driving long-term revenue sustainability while ensuring operational profitability within a highly regulated aviation landscape.
Prior to joining United Nigeria Airlines, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at Uganda Airlines, where he led commercial transformation initiatives over a three-year period. His earlier roles include Head of Commercial and Network & Planning Manager at Africa World Airlines, where he played a key role in route development and network optimisation across West Africa.
Olawuyi’s career foundation was built at Virgin Nigeria Airways and Nigeria Airways, where he gained extensive experience in commercial analytics, route performance evaluation, and market intelligence. He also held a strategic role at Evergreen Apple Nigeria, focusing on business intelligence and long-term corporate planning within the aviation services segment.
Academic Background
His academic background includes an Executive Master’s in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from University of Ibadan.
Industry analysts note that Olawuyi’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for United Nigeria Airlines, as carriers across Africa increasingly prioritise network efficiency, ancillary revenue streams, and strategic alliances to remain competitive.
With his cross-market experience and deep understanding of aviation economics, Olawuyi is expected to play a central role in positioning United Nigeria Airlines for sustainable growth in both regional and international markets.
