The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced two fully funded PhD positions at the Nigeria AI Lab (NAIL), domiciled in its Department of Computer Science.

This initiative is part of the AI for Education project, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The program is aimed at designing AI-powered personalized learning assistants for low-connectivity, underserved learning environments in sub-Saharan Africa.

About the PhD Positions

The PhD tracks include:  Track 1 – AI/ML for Personalized Learning, Track 2 – NLP & Educational Interaction Design

The perks of the position includes:

  • A monthly stipend of approximately NGN 300,000 covering tuition, housing, and living expenses
  • Research and travel support (subject to availability)
  • Mentorship and access to an active research community
  • Opportunities to publish, present, and collaborate with education stakeholders across Africa
