The Nigerian hurdler once again demonstrated why she remains one of the sport’s biggest stars, powering through the closing stages to seal victory ahead of a strong American challenge at Stade Sébastien Charléty on Sunday.

Late burst secures victory

Amusan was not the fastest out of the blocks and found herself chasing the leaders during the opening half of the race as Dutch athlete Nadine Visser set the early pace.

However, the 28-year-old remained composed, gradually reeling in the field before unleashing her trademark acceleration over the final hurdles.

She crossed the finish line in 12.28 seconds, comfortably ahead of Grace Stark, who finished second in 12.38s, while fellow American Alaysha Johnson claimed third place in 12.39s.

The victory highlighted Amusan’s ability to produce under pressure, with her powerful finish proving decisive once again.

Consistency at the highest level

Sunday’s performance marked the third occasion this season that Amusan has clocked 12.28 seconds, having recorded the identical time at both the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings earlier in the year.

Her consistency has been one of the defining features of her 2026 campaign, as she continues to deliver elite-level performances against the world’s best hurdlers.

The Paris triumph also represents her second Diamond League victory of the season after her success in Rabat, adding to her growing list of wins this year, which also includes victory at the New Taipei City Athletics Open.

Momentum building for major titles

Amusan has steadily built momentum throughout the season following another African title triumph, with each performance reinforcing her status as one of the favourites for the biggest championships later this year.

The former Diamond League champion appears to be reaching peak form at the ideal time as attention begins to shift towards the Diamond League Final and the Commonwealth Games.

Eyes on reclaiming the Diamond League crown

Having dominated the Diamond League by winning three consecutive titles between 2021 and 2023, Amusan is now firmly in contention to reclaim the crown after narrowly missing out in recent seasons.

With Sunday’s victory in Paris extending her excellent run of form, the world champion has sent another strong message to her rivals that she remains one of the athletes to beat in the women’s 100m hurdles.

If her current consistency continues, Amusan looks well positioned to challenge for more major honours before the 2026 season comes to a close.
