The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced vandals have attacked its Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kv transmission line resulting in the theft of one-third of the transmission line’s conductors.
The TCN in a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, its GM, Public Affairs announced the line was currently under repair due to previous vandalism and was again targeted by vandals at night on November 19.
Efforts to Replace Stolen Conductors
In the aftermath of the vandalization, TCN engineers led by Engr. Emmanuel Akpa, General Manager of the Port Harcourt region has in an attempt to prevent further vandalization of the site engaged local security operatives to secure the site until repairs are completed.
Benin Transmission Lines Vandalism
Vandals have also attacked the 330kv Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho transmission lines with 31 tower lines affected and critical components removed.
Need to Combat Vandalism in Nigeria’s Power Sector
These incidences of vandalism are the latest in a series of vandalism challenges bedeviling Nigeria’s power sector.
The Energy supply chain has had to struggle with incidences of vandalism, compromise of infrastructure, and energy theft. This has affected the power supply in the country as typified by incessant grid collapses.
There is therefore an urgent need to tackle issues of vandalism and theft affecting Nigeria’s power infrastructure. This is to help in the expansion and stability of the national grid.
