Two Nigerians Detained in India Over Visa Overstay

Two Nigerian nationals, including a woman, have been detained in Dwarka, Delhi, India, for allegedly overstaying their visas during a police operation targeting immigration violations.

The two Nigerians were detained after officers from the Dwarka District Police checked their travel and identification documents and found that their visas had expired, according to a report by Republic World.

The first detainee, Nwakor Paul Chukwuebuka, who also uses the names Cypril Odigbo and Paul Chukwuebuka Okeke, was arrested on August 7 in the Dwarka district.

Police verification of his travel and identification documents reportedly confirmed that his visa had expired. He was subsequently presented before the relevant authority, which issued an order for his deportation and repatriation.

In a separate case, police apprehended Aminat Aminu, a Nigerian woman, on August 10 after finding her residing in Dwarka with an expired visa.

Authorities subsequently verified her immigration status and presented her before the competent authority, which also ordered her deportation and repatriation.

The detentions were carried out under Operation VISTA 1.0, a Delhi Police initiative focused on monitoring foreign nationals and identifying immigration violations.

Under the operation, police teams conduct systematic checks of travel and identification documents to identify visa overstays and other breaches of immigration regulations.

Police said further legal and administrative action would be taken against the two Nigerians in accordance with applicable laws.
