Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will coordinate the bank’s financial and regulatory reporting processes, ensuring that required returns are accurate, complete and submitted within regulatory deadlines.

The role includes responsibility for:

  • Leading the preparation and delivery of statutory financial statements in line with accounting standards, regulatory requirements and Group policies.
  • Coordinating annual external audits and providing auditors with required documentation and schedules.
  • Overseeing account reconciliation and substantiation processes.
  • Managing regulatory returns submitted to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other relevant regulators.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate regulatory, prudential, treasury, trade and subsidiary reporting.
  • Monitoring changes to regulatory reporting requirements and coordinating their implementation.
  • Acting as a key liaison with regulators on financial and regulatory reporting matters.
  • Overseeing regulatory capital adequacy and prudential returns.
  • Monitoring regulatory capital and market-risk requirements and escalating potential breaches where necessary.
  • Reviewing regulatory risk and capital information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Improving and automating financial and regulatory reporting processes.
  • Working with Finance, Treasury, Operations, Technology and other teams to strengthen reporting systems and governance.

Governance and Control Responsibilities

The successful candidate will also support the bank’s financial control and governance framework.

Responsibilities include serving as secretary or alternate secretary to relevant regulatory reporting governance forums, tracking actions and escalating significant reporting issues.

The role also involves working with Internal Audit, external auditors and other assurance teams during reviews and examinations, while ensuring identified issues are resolved promptly.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain effective reporting controls, documentation and operating procedures and identify opportunities to improve financial controls, reporting quality and efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants are expected to have more than eight years of experience in a senior financial management and administration position within a bank or large commercial organisation.

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and IFRS Standards.
  • Knowledge of Group Accounting Policy, taxation, banking and exchange-control legislation.
  • Broad knowledge of banking practices.
  • Strong experience using information technology in modern business environments.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing and developing employees.
  • Chartered Accountant certification, which is listed as mandatory.
  • English-language proficiency.
