On Sunday the 26th of September 2020, Laycon emerged winner after polling the most votes ever recorded in a grand finale since the inception of the reality TV show.

IN CONTEXT
Laycon is a songwriter, singer, rapper, and Nigerian TV reality star.He was born on the 8th of November 1993 and bred in Lagos State. The native of Ogun State graduated from the University of Lagos from Department of Arts in 2016 and finished his National Youth Service Corps in the 2017.

He initially wanted to study International Law because he was “bored” in his NYSC days, but his huge music talent made him decide to become an artiste. He made performances in different singing competitions around Lagos State during his undergraduate years, the most recognized being 2014 Coke Studio University of Lagos Event. He was also amongst the Top 10 in the 2017 MTV BASE Lip Sync Battle Africa Season Two. He began working on his extended play record (EP) titled “Who is Laycon?” after he was signed by FIERCE NATION in 2018 which contains songs like Fierce, Hip hop, Marley Monday, Senseless, Accolades and Who is Laycon?

With the sole aim of promoting his EP, he decided to participate in the reality TV show in Nigeria called Big Brother Naija.

He was selected amongst the 20 participants to stay in Big Brother’s house at most for 71 days, depending on the length of their survival from eviction. On the 19th of July 2020, the show kicked off with Laycon being the 19th entrant. His funny appearance due to his light-bulb jacket and his stature was met with derision by a section of the viewing public.

Due to the same reasons, he was underrated at first by his co-housemates but his undimmable light started shinning after he performed “Who is Laycon?” to his fellow housemates, some days after the commencement of the show. The viewing public and housemates were wowed by the performance. People searched for his songs and fell in love with his craft.

The first housemate to appreciate his talent was another housemate named Erica. She claimed she was “mentally attracted” to him and they became friends.

Laycon was equally attracted to Erica but she did not feel the same way as she was attracted to the son of a billionaire named Kiddwaya. Due to the rejection, Laycon was disappointed but later regained his composure and focus through moral support from Vee and her boyfriend Neo.

Laycon later asked for distance from Erica because he did not want a relapse, a request Erica did not receive well. She later got disqualified after receiving 3 strikes, the third which was a result of her outburst on Laycon due to the latter’s passivity towards an allegation he levied on Erica that she almost kissed him twice.

Laycon’s humility and wisdom were to a fault as he never had an altercation with any housemate throughout his stay. His sense of humor and oratory skills were second to none and these qualities made a lot of people fall in love with him. He became the housemate with highest number of followers (1.5million) on Instagram.

He emerged finalist in the house in the final week with Dorathy, Nengi, Neo and Vee.

He eventually became the winner of the competition with about 250 million votes, a record in the history of the programme.
