The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is set to launch its wave 5 general Household Survey Panel (GHS-Panel) data and report for 2023/2024.

The report is titled “Tracking Nigerian Households to understand their resilience over time” and is meant to cover household spending across Nigeria.

General Household Survey Panel (GHS-Panel)

The General Household Survey Panel (GHS-Panel) is a large-scale, nationally representative survey conducted as part of the Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) program by the World Bank, in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The survey is designed to collect comprehensive information on various aspects of households to better understand living standards, poverty, and socio-economic conditions in the country.

The survey tracks the same households over multiple rounds to study changes over time. This approach helps in analyzing dynamics like poverty transitions, income changes, and economic shocks in the study households.

The study is aimed at informing policy-making by providing data on poverty, inequality, agriculture, and social services. It also helps to evaluate the impact of government programs and interventions on households.

Ultimately, the study contributes to research on economic growth, resilience, and human development.

Significance of the Study

The GHS-Panel provides evidence to tackle issues such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, and climate vulnerabilities effectively.

By focusing on agriculture, the survey also captures insights crucial for Nigeria, a country where a significant portion of the population depends on farming.
