John Stones scored Manchester City’s late winner during stoppage time at Molineux to take them top of the Premier League table. Earlier in the day, Jorgen Larsen had opened the scoring for Gary O’Neil side as Wolverhampton took a shock lead. A sweeping move down the right saw Nelson Semedo’s low cross find Strand Larsen free to tap it at the far post. Wolves had another similar chance later and were denied by Ederson.

The second half saw Manchester City probing Wolves defence. They introduced Phil Foden and Jack Grealish to try a different style of wing threat, but Erling Haaland was contained. Wolves were close to seeing out a draw before the late drama of Stones header stunned Molineux. The home fans were furious with the decision to let the goal stand after a VAR review. As the on-field call was offside. Wolves were applauded by the crowd for their efforts but the loss put them at the bottom of the table.
