Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has issued a disclaimer on issues surrounding the ongoing STS 2-meter upgrade.
STS 2 Meter Upgrade
The STS – 2 meter upgrade is a mandatory requirement for all STS-compliant meters around the world which comes with improved security measures compared to ordinary meters.
EKEDC had earlier announced a deadline for switching all meters to the STS-2 platform to continue recharging their meters.
Disclaimer on Unscrupulous Elements
Having noticed that some members of the society were requesting money from unsuspecting citizens for the upgrade, EKEDC has restated that the STS-2 meter upgrade is free and as such no citizen should offer any financial gratification or other forms of gratification to anyone in the process of upgrading their meters to the STS-2 platform.
The publication of EKEDC reads “Our attention has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous members of the society demanding payment for the STS – 2 meter upgrade process.
“We hereby inform our customers and the general public that the STS 2 meter upgrade is free and EKEDC would not make demands of anyone to pay for the upgrade.
“We implore our customers not to pay or gratify anyone for this process as EKEDC would not be liable for it.”
How to Report Cases of Gratification Demand
Accordingly, anyone faced with the demand for gratification during the process of trying to upgrade to the STS – 2 platform can report such cases of demand to the nearest police station. Gratification demands are to be reported to Eko Disco through whitsleblower@ekedp.com or call 08000033333.
