EKEDC Distributes Free Prepaid Meters to Band A Customers

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has stated that from November 24th, customers who fail to upgrade their prepaid meters to the STS 2 meter would no longer be able to recharge their meters.

What is the STS

The STS stands for Standard Transfer Specification, a secure message system for carrying information between a point-of-sale and a meter.

What is the STS 2 Meter Upgrade

The STS 2 meter upgrade is a mandatory requirement for all STS compliant meters around the world. The STS 2 comes with improved security measures compared to the ordinary STS meters.

As a result all electricity distribution companies (Discos) have been mandated to upgrade their prepaid meters to the STS 2 platform.

Deadline and How to Upgrade

All prepaid customers currently vending on the STS 1 would have to upgrade to the STS 2 before November 24, 2024 else they would no longer be able to recharge after that.

To upgrade, affected customers are to visit kctcheckup.ekedp.com to know how to go about the update starting from October 31 for free.
