Dangote Refinery says it has become the largest supplier of jet fuel into Europe, highlighting its ability to compete in international markets on product quality and reliability.
Dangote Refinery has positioned itself as more than a facility supplying Nigeria’s fuel market, describing its business model as a trading-led, merchant refinery designed to process different crude types and sell a wide range of petroleum products across global markets.
Speaking during a presentation on the refinery’s investment case, the company’s management said its strategic advantage lies in its scale, location, crude flexibility, automation and ability to serve markets beyond Nigeria.
“We are a merchant refinery with full crude and feedstock flexibility,” the refinery said, noting that it processes a wide variety of crudes and feedstocks and serves different markets with a broad product portfolio.
Located in Lekki, Lagos, the refinery has a nameplate capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, making it the largest refinery in Africa. Its management said the scale of the facility places it among the five or six largest refineries globally.
The refinery’s location gives it access to crude-producing markets in West Africa, while its merchant model allows it to source crude beyond Nigeria when commercially advantageous.
The company said it is focused on “daily margin maximisation”, rather than being tied to a single crude source or domestic market.
This strategy is increasingly reflected in its export operations. Dangote Refinery said it has become the largest supplier of jet fuel into Europe, highlighting its ability to compete in international markets on product quality and reliability.
Dangote’s European Jet Fuel Supply
The refinery said its operations have helped mitigate some of the effects of supply disruptions arising from geopolitical crises, including the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Dangote Refinery’s emergence as a major supplier of jet fuel to Europe is one of the clearest demonstrations of how the Lagos-based plant has moved beyond Nigeria’s domestic fuel market and into global petroleum trading.
In June 2026, the refinery shipped about 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, equivalent to roughly 582.5 million litres, overtaking the United States as the continent’s largest external supplier for the month, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights data. Nigerian shipments to Europe had stood at 232,000 tonnes in May.
The position was maintained in July, when more than 400,000 tonnes of Dangote-produced jet fuel were delivered to Europe, making the refinery the region’s largest supplier for a second consecutive month, according to Kpler data.
