The African Development Bank is seeking a highly skilled Investment Readiness and Capital Mobilization Consultant under the YouthADAPT-supported climate entrepreneurship programme, funded through the Africa Climate Change Fund.

This assignment is designed to strengthen fundraising capacity and investment readiness for seven women-led climate adaptation enterprises operating across Africa under the YouthADAPT Programme.

Core Job Purpose

The consultant will assess investment readiness and build investor-facing materials for seven YouthADAPT-supported enterprises to help them secure growth capital.

You will act as a bridge between climate innovation and investors, transforming enterprise data into:

  • Investor-ready pitch decks
  • A consolidated climate investment pitch book
  • A financing and investor matchmaking strategy

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will:

  • Conduct investment readiness assessments for seven climate adaptation enterprises
  • Review financial performance, business models, governance, and growth strategies
  • Design an assessment framework and data collection methodology
  • Interview founders, stakeholders, and programme partners
  • Evaluate scalability, market opportunity, and climate impact
  • Identify financing gaps and investment requirements
  • Develop a comparative investment readiness matrix
  • Produce investor-grade pitch decks for each enterprise
  • Build a consolidated YouthADAPT investment pitch book
  • Validate all financial and operational data with enterprises and programme teams
  • Deliver editable, presentation-ready investment materials

Deliverables

1. Inception Report

Includes methodology, tools, workplan, stakeholder mapping, and data collection plan.

2. Investment Readiness Matrix

Comparative evaluation of all seven enterprises covering:

  • Financial strength
  • Market opportunity
  • Governance
  • Climate impact
  • Funding needs
  • Investment gaps

3. Seven Investor Pitch Decks

Each enterprise receives a tailored fundraising deck covering:

  • Business model
  • Market opportunity
  • Traction
  • Financials
  • Impact story
  • Funding requirements

4. YouthADAPT Investment Pitch Book

A consolidated investor document positioning all seven enterprises as a climate adaptation investment portfolio for:

  • DFIs
  • Impact investors
  • Foundations
  • Climate finance institutions

Required Skills & Experience

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field
    or CFA/ACCA/CPA/CAIA equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in investment analysis, VC, PE, SME finance, or development finance
  • Strong experience creating:
    • Pitch decks
    • Investment memoranda
    • Fundraising strategies
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and business models
  • Experience in SME or startup fundraising support
  • Strong understanding of African entrepreneurship ecosystems
  • Experience with climate finance or impact investing is an advantage
  • Prior work with DFIs, MDBs, or donor-funded programs preferred
  • Strong English communication skills (French is an advantage)

  • 20% – Approval of inception report
  • 40% – Approval of investment readiness assessment matrix
  • 40% – Final pitch book and pitch decks delivery
