The Nigerian Navy has warned job seekers against fraudulent Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) recruitment notices circulating across social media, saying the advertised exercise has not yet opened.
The warning was issued on Tuesday by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, who said notices being shared online about DSSC Course 30 were not authorised by the Navy.
According to Folorunsho, the false notices contain purported vacancies and qualification requirements for several professional fields, including medicine, engineering, law and information and communications technology.
He urged members of the public to disregard the publications and avoid making payments to anyone claiming to be able to secure a place in the Navy’s DSSC recruitment exercise.
“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out,” Folorunsho said, adding that details of any legitimate exercise would be published through his official social media account, the Nigerian Navy’s website and its verified social media platforms.
Navy separates DSSC from 2026 Batch 39 recruitment
The warning comes shortly after the Nigerian Navy announced its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment for entry into the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
That exercise is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, and is separate from the DSSC recruitment programme.
The Navy has directed eligible applicants for Batch 39 to apply through its official recruitment portal. It also stressed that the application process is free.
Applicants have been warned against paying individuals who claim they can influence or facilitate recruitment.
Applicants must meet recruitment requirements
For the Batch 39 exercise, applicants are required to be Nigerian citizens by birth and must have a National Identification Number.
They must also satisfy the educational, age, physical and medical requirements specified by the Navy.
The Navy’s latest warning means applicants should distinguish between the officially announced Basic Training School recruitment and the unannounced DSSC exercise.
Job seekers interested in the DSSC programme have been advised to rely only on information released through the Navy’s recognised communication channels when recruitment formally begins.
