The African Union Commission (AUC) has opened applications for the third cohort of its Digital & Innovation Fellowship Programme, inviting young technology professionals from across Africa to apply for a 12-month fellowship focused on advancing digital transformation within African Union institutions.
The programme aims to equip participants with hands-on experience in digital governance, artificial intelligence, software development, data analytics, and public sector innovation while supporting the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa (2020–2030).
Fellowship overview
The Digital & Innovation Fellowship Programme identifies talented young professionals and places them within African Union departments and institutions to work on technology-driven projects that strengthen public sector digital systems across the continent.
For the 2026 cohort, 12 fellows will be selected to collaborate with policymakers, technology experts, and institutional leaders on projects designed to modernize public service delivery.
The fellowship is expected to begin in April 2026, with placements primarily based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and other African Union institutions.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be citizens of an African Union Member State.
Be under 35 years of age.
Hold a degree in a relevant technical discipline.
Demonstrate strong technical and analytical skills.
Show a passion for digital transformation and public sector innovation.
Relevant academic backgrounds include Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Business Information Systems, Digital Communications, Business Analytics, Computer Engineering, and related technical fields.
The African Union has also encouraged applications from women, persons with disabilities, and qualified young professionals from all member states.
