The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has announced applications for the position of Operations Officer – Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory, a senior-level role based in Dakar, Senegal.
The position is part of IFC’s Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory (SIA) team under the World Bank Group’s Infrastructure Vice Presidency and is aimed at professionals with deep expertise in sustainability, mining, infrastructure development, climate advisory, and ESG operations across emerging markets.
According to the organisation, the successful candidate will help support sustainable investment projects across Africa, particularly within the mining, energy, transport, and waste sectors.

About the Role
The Operations Officer will work closely with IFC’s Africa team to provide advisory services that strengthen sustainability practices among private sector infrastructure clients.
The role includes client engagement, business development, project management, stakeholder coordination, sustainability advisory, and knowledge dissemination.
The selected professional will also help develop innovative sustainability solutions for infrastructure projects while ensuring alignment with the World Bank Group’s development goals focused on poverty reduction, shared prosperity, climate resilience, and inclusive growth.
The position is structured as a three-year local recruitment contract and reports directly to the SIA Africa Lead in Dakar.
Key Responsibilities
Among the major responsibilities listed by IFC are:
- Leading sustainability risk and opportunity assessments for clients
- Designing advisory solutions for mining and infrastructure companies
- Managing sustainability-focused projects across Africa
- Coordinating consultants, implementation partners, and stakeholders
- Supporting climate, social inclusion, jobs, and resilient infrastructure initiatives
- Preparing project work plans, budgets, reports, and legal agreements
- Building relationships with governments, private sector operators, donors, and communities
- Developing sustainability knowledge products and sharing industry best practices
The role also requires participation in field missions and collaboration with other World Bank Group teams on infrastructure and development initiatives.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants are expected to possess:
- A master’s degree in fields such as engineering, finance, economics, sustainable development, mining, social sciences, or business administration
- At least eight years of relevant experience in sustainability, mining, resilient infrastructure, or sustainable finance
- Strong understanding of ESG reporting frameworks and sustainability indicators
- Experience managing complex operations and stakeholder relationships
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Fluency in both English and French
IFC noted that experience working in Africa or other emerging markets will be considered an added advantage.
