Applications have officially opened for the African Women in Science (AWIS) Program 2027–2028, a fully funded initiative that supports early-career African women scientists working in freshwater and aquatic ecosystems.
The programme, led by the African Centre for Aquatic Research and Education in partnership with the International Institute for Sustainable Development, aims to strengthen leadership, research capacity, and regional collaboration among women scientists across Africa.
About the Programme
The AWIS Programme is a 10–11-month capacity-building initiative focused on issues affecting the African Great Lakes and surrounding freshwater systems. It targets women working in fields such as aquatic ecosystems, fisheries, aquaculture, wetlands, and environmental sustainability.
