Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their orientation camp in the South-East have regained their freedom.
The release was confirmed on Wednesday by Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to Oloko, the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, received confirmation of the release from Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, during a telephone conversation at about 5pm.
The prospective corps members were abducted while travelling to their NYSC orientation camp, raising concerns among their families and prompting calls for intensified efforts to secure their release.
The circumstances surrounding the abduction and release, including whether any ransom was paid or arrests were made, were not immediately disclosed.
Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had deployed the DIG Operations and two Commissioners of Police to support efforts to rescue the abducted prospective corps members in Imo State.
