Job Description

The Residential Security Technician will perform a range of technical duties in support of the U.S. Mission’s residential security programme.

The role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing technical security equipment. The successful candidate will also prepare reports on engineering and maintenance activities and make recommendations for improving the Mission’s security technology systems.

The position may involve supporting security technology programmes in unclassified areas of U.S. Government facilities and installations within Abuja and other operating locations.

Key Responsibilities

The Residential Security Alarm Technician will be responsible for:

  • Installing, maintaining and repairing technical security equipment.
  • Installing, programming, troubleshooting and repairing alarm systems.
  • Supporting the installation and configuration of SMS, radio-base and cellular-based alarm systems.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting CCTV equipment and devices.
  • Providing technical recommendations on security products and upgrades.
  • Assessing security technology products available in the local market.
  • Preparing reports relating to engineering, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Supporting the implementation of maintenance strategies and technical practices.
  • Troubleshooting security equipment and resolving technical problems independently.
  • Providing technical support to the Regional Security Office.
  • Working with electrical wiring, locks, lighting systems and other related equipment.

Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants are required to have at least two years of university studies in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Candidates must also have a minimum of four years of experience as an electrician or alarm technician.

Experience with the following is required:

  • Electronics
  • Basic electrical wiring
  • Locks and locksmithing
  • Lighting systems
  • Alarm systems
  • CCTV systems
  • Security technology equipment

Applicants should have knowledge of alternating and direct current systems, as well as experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repairing alarm systems.

Knowledge of different types of steel, concrete and masonry wall construction, including anchors and bolts, is also required.

Skills and Other Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold a valid driver’s licence.
  • Have held a valid Class D driver’s licence for at least five years.
  • Have experience installing, troubleshooting and maintaining CCTV equipment.
  • Be able to configure CCTV equipment and devices.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Be able to use Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
  • Be familiar with Office 365 and web-based data-entry platforms.
  • Be able to use internet search engines effectively.
  • Have the ability to independently diagnose and resolve problems involving security equipment.
  • Be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

The position also requires strong knowledge of security technology systems and an understanding of available security products in the local market.

Salary
