Ayodele Oduola, a recent graduate from Staffordshire University, has developed an innovative mobile application that is transforming how digital evidence is handled by Staffordshire Police. Over 800 officers are already using the app, which streamlines the examination of electronic devices at crime scenes.

Oduola, who earned a distinction in MSc Software Engineering and was recognized as Staffordshire University’s Best Graduating Student of 2024, created the application as part of a capstone project. His goal was to reduce errors and delays in processing digital evidence—a challenge increasingly faced by law enforcement in today’s tech-driven world.

The app serves as a step-by-step guide for officers and forensic staff, helping them manage and secure digital devices in real time. Built using Flutter, it features cross-platform functionality and integrates with multiple APIs and third-party libraries. Key features include automatic device detection via IMEI, tools for identifying hidden files and apps, AI-content detection capabilities, and a simplified cyber glossary designed for non-technical users.

The Staffordshire Forensic Partnership acknowledged Oduola’s work in a recent LinkedIn update, following a quarterly program board meeting:

“We finally got a chance to see a demo of a project long in the making—an app that could support our offender management teams and front-line officers in navigating the digital world.

Ayodele Oduola presented the latest version, a solid proof-of-concept developed largely after graduation. His virtual demonstration left a lasting impression, with praise coming from everyone present as well as internal police teams.” The Staffordshire Forensic Partnership noted

Oduola’s work is already making a difference in the field. Officers have lauded the app’s intuitive interface and smooth performance. Beyond simplifying complex forensic tasks, it’s expected to cut down on paperwork, boost the precision of evidence handling, and free up officers to focus on critical police work.

As the app’s sole developer, Oduola rebuilt the entire system from the ground up—replacing legacy processes with a scalable, user-first solution underpinned by modern software engineering standards and reinforced cybersecurity frameworks.

The project is now seeking internal backing for continued development and broader deployment, with hopes of rolling it out across more UK police forces in the near future.
