The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-off verification system costing N4,000 for candidates presenting WASSCE O’Level results for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The new system, which took effect on September 1, 2026, is intended to eliminate repeated verification of the same WAEC results, reduce costs and simplify the admission process.
Under the arrangement, candidates seeking admission into institutions whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WASSCE results once through the designated JAMB Verification Service.
Candidates are required to pay a N4,000 one-off verification fee through the approved JAMB platform. They will provide their candidate and WASSCE details, submit their results and await confirmation of the verification outcome.
Once verified, the result and verification outcome will be made available to the relevant tertiary institution through JAMB’s system for admission screening and other approved administrative purposes.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcomes with relevant institutions.
JAMB and WAEC warned candidates against paying the ₦4,000 fee directly to tertiary institutions, officials or third parties.
The bodies also said candidates who have successfully completed the verification should not be charged another fee to verify the same WASSCE result for the same admission process.
The new arrangement is expected to reduce duplicate verification exercises and limit the need for candidates to make repeated visits to institutions and computer-based test (CBT) centres.
Candidates have been advised to use only the designated JAMB Verification Service, retain their payment confirmation and keep their verification details for future reference.
JAMB and WAEC said the system is part of efforts to improve the security and integrity of candidates’ academic records while making the tertiary admission process more efficient and transparent.
