The International Organization for Migration has announced applications for its Digital Media and Communications Internship position in Abuja, offering young professionals and recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the United Nations system.
The internship, which falls under the Media and Communications unit of IOM Nigeria, is designed for students and graduates interested in digital storytelling, communications strategy, social media management, branding, and multimedia production.

According to the organization, the successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Media and Communications Officer, supporting digital engagement and communication activities across the IOM Nigeria mission.

Internship Responsibilities
The selected intern will assist in producing digital content for multiple communication platforms while supporting campaigns focused on safe migration pathways.
Responsibilities include creating multimedia materials, designing graphics, writing feature stories, editing videos, and helping manage the organization’s digital presence across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.
The role will also involve monitoring campaign performance using analytics tools, researching communication trends, and contributing creative ideas to improve the agency’s branding and audience engagement efforts.
Candidates with skills in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro are considered an advantage.
Eligibility Requirements
IOM said applicants must hold a first degree in Communication, Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Digital Filmmaking, or related development-focused disciplines.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be between 20 and 36 years old
- Have less than two years of relevant work experience
- Be in the final year of a university degree programme or have graduated within the last 12 months
- Demonstrate strong written and spoken English proficiency
- Possess communication, teamwork, and digital media skills
Knowledge of social media management and media communication workflows will also be beneficial for applicants seeking the internship role.

Training and Learning Opportunities
The internship offers participants exposure to an international multicultural work environment within the United Nations system.
Interns will gain experience in organizational management, international cooperation, and migration-related communications.
IOM noted that interns will also have access to online training courses and opportunities to interact with staff across headquarters and missions globally.
Additional Information
The organization stated that interns may receive a small monthly stipend depending on experience and location.
However, candidates already receiving financial support or internship allowances from another institution may not qualify for the stipend.
The agency also emphasized that it does not charge any fees during its recruitment process and warned applicants against sharing banking information with unauthorized individuals.
