IFC Opens Applications for Senior Bond Specialist Role in Washington

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, has announced a vacancy for a (Senior) Investment Officer – Bond Specialist as it seeks to expand its bond investment and structured finance operations across emerging markets.

According to the vacancy notice, the successful candidate will join IFC’s Structured Products Team and play a key role in developing and executing bond investments, including thematic bonds focused on climate, social impact, and sustainable development.

The officer will also advise on other debt securities such as covered bonds, perpetual bonds, mortgage-backed securities, and project bonds.

IFC Targets Growth in Emerging Market Bond Investments

The recruitment comes as IFC continues to increase its support for private-sector development in emerging economies.

The institution reported a record $71.7 billion in commitments during fiscal year 2025, aimed at mobilizing private capital and expanding access to financing in developing countries.

The Bond Specialist will help identify investment opportunities, structure transactions, negotiate deals, and maintain relationships with financial institutions and arrangers across multiple jurisdictions.

The role will also involve working closely with IFC’s regional investment teams and supporting the organization’s broader capital market development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Among the responsibilities outlined in the job posting are:

  • Structuring and executing bond and debt capital market transactions.
  • Advising clients on capital market financing solutions.
  • Evaluating and negotiating bond investments and structured finance transactions.
  • Supporting portfolio monitoring and exit strategies.
  • Training IFC investment teams on bond and structured product investments.
  • Collaborating with public and private stakeholders to strengthen capital markets in emerging economies.

The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the Joint Capital Markets Program (J-CAP), a World Bank Group initiative aimed at strengthening domestic capital markets in developing countries.

Qualifications Required

IFC is seeking professionals with:

  • A master’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 8–10 years of experience in debt capital markets or structured finance.
  • Proven experience across the full bond transaction lifecycle, including pricing, execution, hedging, documentation, and investor roadshows.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and client relationship management skills.
  • Fluency in English, with French or Spanish considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.

Candidates with experience in liability management, corporate finance, credit analysis, and emerging market transactions are expected to be particularly competitive for the role.

Three-Year International Recruitment Position

The position is being offered as a three-year international recruitment appointment at the GG grade level.

The Bond Specialist will report to IFC’s Senior Manager for Structured Products and work with teams across infrastructure, manufacturing, financial institutions, and other sectors.
