Egbin Power, a giant in Nigeria’s power generation, has promoted the huge role of women in the power sector as well as other areas of society and urged more women participation towards a sustainable future. The Genco made this call to action at a vibrant occasion held to celebrate women in the company and worldwide, in honor of International Women’s Day 2025.

At the event, the CEO of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, reiterated the company’s commitment to upholding gender equality, diversity, and inclusion and further urging women to remain fearless in pursuit of excellence and assured in their endeavors.

“Diversity at Egbin Power is not an objective, but a necessity for growth and innovation. Women are necessary in society and in the sector, and their contributions continue to be the propellers of our success. We celebrate them today for what they have accomplished and recommit ourselves to creating an environment where every woman can thrive,” he said. He also appreciated women globally, and Nigerian women in particular for their massive contribution to sectors and at the home front. He further stated that their gigantic influence is profound and has impacted the growth of the sector as a whole.

As part of Egbin Power’s activity marking the 2025 International Women’s Day, presentations, mentorship, and an interactive workshop where two guest speakers engaged with female employees in activities designed to broaden their frontiers and empower women to excel in their business and personal lives were carried out.

Among the events was a lecture “Accelerate Action: A Call to Do More” delivered by a guest speaker, Ijeoma Nwakuche, Managing Director at MML Consulting Ltd, a business strategy and actioned human capital management consultancy firm. In imparting tips on overcoming adversity, especially in a patriarchal field, Nwakuche averred that “women still need equality and equity in the world today; hence it is important to reinforce the call for women to rise up, to be seen, heard, and recognised for the things they deserve, particularly in the workplace.” According to her, International Women’s Day provides organisations, governments, and individuals with the opportunity to encourage women to believe in themselves, think boldly, and act decisively.

She commended the Egbin Power Board and Management for their firm support of women in the company on various platforms. She believes that these initiatives indicate that the firm has women’s support and an environment that empowers them to succeed.

Dr. Yomi Jaye, CECCY Health Managing Director, and guest speaker, spoke about “Mental Health and Lifestyle Approaches for Women,” observing that women should give importance to their health so that they can play an active role in all walks of life and at home as well. He emphasized that a healthy diet, sound sleep, and physical exercise contribute to emotional and mental strength.

To inspire women to leverage their unique talents and abilities, Egbin Power Chief Corporate Service Officer Emmanuel Udu spoke on “Turning Your Passion into a Side Hustle,” noting that passion is a motivational factor in business. “By knowing what they like doing and what skills they have, women can make their passions work as successful businesses that not only bring them personal fulfillment but also economic empowerment,” Udu said.

Some excellent women, who greatly impacted the company and the industry, were also being recognized during the ceremony by the CEO of Egbin Power. Special Awards by the CEO went to some of the below-received award-winners: Endurance Otaru from the Business Operations Department; Jadesola Ogundipe of the Electrical Department and Engr. Temitope Abdulsalam, Senior Manager, TCN–Egbin Sub-Region.
