Many Nigerians have taken to their social media to react to the extension of voting time announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in some affected areas in Edo state.

INEC in a press release on Saturday announced extension of voting time in some areas where election started late.

The statement reads in part, “Our monitoring indicates early commencement of polls in many Polling Units, but there are also reports of late commencement in some locations.

To ensure that no voter is disenfranchised, the Commission wishes to reiterate that, in line with our Regulations and Guidelines, voting will be extended wherever it commenced late and will continue until the last voter on the queue who arrived at the Polling Unit by 2.30pm has voted.

Accordingly, we have drawn the attention of our office in Edo State to ensure that, where necessary, there is adequate power supply from our back-up electric generators in the affected Polling Units or Ward Collation Centres.”

However, scores of Nigerians on X have commented on the development, tasking the electoral body on transparency.

Others have accused the commission of incompetence, adding it took it years to prepare for the polls.

“You had four years to plan this, four whole years!, Joyce Daniels noted.

Olawale Awotide wrote, “You people always find a way or reasons to prove to the people that you are the worst institution in Nigeria under your rigging Chairman. You never improve on previous challenges.”

“Results that have already been written even before the election was conducted. Eye neck have never been transparent,” said Wills
