Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and younger brother of UAE Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has died at the age of 76.
Sheikh Ahmed died on Monday morning, September 21, 2026, according to an official statement from the office of Sheikh Mohammed. The Dubai government has declared a 10-day mourning period following his death, with flags to be flown at half-mast across the emirate during the period.
The official statement said Sheikh Mohammed and the ruling family mourned Sheikh Ahmed’s death and prayed for mercy and comfort for his family and loved ones.
In a personal tribute posted on X, Sheikh Mohammed mourned his younger brother and asked for divine mercy for him.
“May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. May Allah have mercy on you, my brother,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, also paid tribute to his uncle.
“Today, we lose a dear one from our family,” Sheikh Hamdan wrote, adding that Sheikh Ahmed would remain in the family’s memories and prayers.
Sheikh Ahmed was a senior figure in Dubai’s security establishment, serving as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security.
His death comes as the UAE continues to observe the established mourning and official protocols for members of the ruling family.
